Tom's WarProducer. After being drafted in 1969, Tom Geerdes served as an Army medic in the 11th Armored Cavalry in Vietnam and Cambodia. Like many veterans, he returned home a changed man. At StoryCorps, Tom shared his long journey toward healing with his daughter, Hannah Campbell.
The BookmobileProducer. At eight years old, Storm Reyes was already working full time with other migrant farm workers in the fields outside Tacoma, Washington. One day, a bookmobile arrived and brought her new worlds—and hope.

On February 10, 2015, three Muslim students, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21; her husband, Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23; and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19 were shot and killed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, by a neighbor. Nine months before the murders, Yusor recorded a StoryCorps interview with her former schoolteacher and principal, Mussarut Jabeen.
