TRAFFIC STOP

Supervising Audio Recordist. While working at StoryCorps, I facilitated and recorded this conversation between Patsy Hathaway and her adopted son, Alex Landau. In the piece, Alex recalls how he nearly lost his life following a traffic stop with the Denver police. After recording the interview, I made a rough cut using ProTools. The story was later animated, and won a 2016 News & Documentary Emmy Award in the New Approaches category.

In 2015, nine-year-old Aidan Sykes sat down to ask his father, Albert, a few questions. ALBERT & AIDAN SYKES

Producer. In 2016, StoryCorps collaborated with Upworthy to launch the #WhoWeAre Campaign, a series of animated shorts that highlighted compassion and empathy during a divisive election season. I worked with the StoryCorps leadership, Upworthy, and our animator to produce this series of text-based animations designed for social media. The series garnered over 38.5 million views in the first four months of release. This short piece, about nine-year-old Aidan Sykes and his father, Albert, was one of the lighter pieces in the series.

Republicans have been clear: they want to repeal and replace Obamacare. Under a Trump presidency, the future of the Affordable Care Act is uncertain and an important part of it is in danger of being repealed. Here's a look at some of the lives it has helped save.

HUFFINGTON POST: OBAMACARE

Researcher & Associate Producer. Shortly after the 2016 Presidential election, I worked on this video about the Affordable Care Act. My research led me to Jeff Jeans, a formerly-conservative throat cancer survivor whose life was saved by the ACA's pre-existing condition policy, and to Stacey Lihn, who spoke at the 2012 Democratic National Convention about how the ACA's elimination of lifetime caps has impacted her family. I wrote interview questions, conducted pre-interviews, created fact sheets for the production team, and coordinated shoot logistics remotely with the producer.

On February 10, 2015, three Muslim students, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21; her husband, Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23; and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19; were shot and killed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, by a neighbor. Nine months before the murders, Yusor recorded a StoryCorps interview with her former schoolteacher and principal, Mussarut Jabeen. StoryCorps and Upworthy, the mission-driven media company that reaches more than 200 million people each month, have joined forces to launch #WhoWeAre, a campaign to share the stories of everyday Americans, build compassion, and offer hope to a divided nation. #WhoWeAre calls on Americans to reach across perceived divides and listen to one another. YUSOR ABU-SALHA & MUSSARUT JABEEN

Producer.  I also produced this much darker story for the same #WhoWeAre animation series. In addition to my regular production duties, I worked extensively with the victims' families to ensure the piece, which centers on the 2015 murder of three Muslim students in Chapel Hill, NC, was handled with respect.
